Experts: rehabilitation of killer whales should be carried out in the bay Srednyaya
Ecologists noted the need to create an expert group of Russian and foreign experts and to minimize the contact of animals with humans
MOSCOW, March 5. /TASS./ Rehabilitation of illegally caught killer whales in Primorye should begin immediately and be carried out at the place of keeping animals in the bay Srednyaya, as moving them to the island of Russky will worsen conditions and delay release into the wild, the statement of the coalition of environmental organizations "for the freedom of killer whales and Beluga whales".
Earlier on Tuesday, Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Gordeev held a meeting on the issue of determining the future of the animals contained in the bay Srednyaya, where it was noted that they are no longer evidence in the case of illegal fishing, and the arrest was lifted from them. Therefore, the interaction of all stakeholders will be organized for the possible movement of animals in one of the bays of the island of Russky. There, on the basis of existing enclosures, a center should be established to prepare orcas and belugas for release into the wild.
"The movement of cetaceans from the bay Srednyaya to the island of Russky is unacceptable, as it leads to a significant delay in their release, to a deterioration in conditions of detention and, in fact, is a change of one "whale prison" to another. For animals there is no fundamental difference in what place they will be kept in captivity <...> rehabilitation (preparation for release) and killer whales, and Beluga whales should begin immediately and take place at the place of their current detention in the bay Srednyaya", - said in a statement.
The coalition opposes the transfer of animals to the oceanariums or to the center on the island of Russky. Environmentalists note that the water near the island of Russky is worse than in the bay Srednyaya, because of this, the animals can worsen the disease. In addition, transportation to the new center and then back to the places of release will lead to double stress for orcas.
According to representatives of the coalition, killer whales should be released into the wild ... after a short course of rehabilitation lasting one and a half to two months. It is noted that for the rehabilitation of animals it is necessary to create an expert group, which will involve Russian and international experts, to solve the issue with the sublease of equipment, to transfer the animals under the control of experts, to minimize their contacts with people, to assess the condition of killer whales and, if necessary, to conduct a course of treatment. Following the meeting with the representatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ministry of Agriculture, Rosrybolovstvo, the State Office of Public Prosecutor, SK, FSB, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Rosimushchestvo and other interested departments Gordeev instructed the relevant departments to "prepare proposals for improving the regulatory framework in determining the total allowable catch of marine mammals with the purpose of its minimization and implementation of fisheries to cultural and educational purposes, and to toughen requirements to their content and a transportation. The comment.
1. Not to fulfill the any "move" ["relocation"], but publicly, in the presence of representatives of the media and environmental organizations, immediately to release.
2. Why [for what purpose] to move? Answer (if to conjecture): to depict a "care" [a "concern"]. To remove the extreme social heat. At the same time to make a room [to prepare a space] for a new "prisoners".
3. What is the "whale prison" from a legal point of view?
Is it movable or immovable (or real) estate?
What regulations govern the creation of such facilities?
Who is the owner of the "whale jail" [the "whale prison"]?
What documents confirm the right of ownership?
Who and in what order gave permission to create a "whale prison"? (document: name [type], number, date, name of the person who issued the document).
If there is evidence of an illegality arises, apparently, the basis for requirements on the elimination of the "whale jail" [the "whale prison"]
In this case, the scope of requirements can be expanded: not only the release of animals, but also the elimination of the "whale prison".
