It's the exile! The Tsar did not like the allegorical verses about the beautiful Liberty, and the Tsar sent the poet into exile.
But the poet does not give up, he does not lose his presence of mind.
He decides to write prose.
The poet draws female heads on the margins of sheets of paper and writes down an approximate plot of the story.
A young officer from the local nobles wants to make a career. But how to "get into people" without a fortune and without connections? He must marry the general's daughter!
A petty nobleman takes a vacation, changes clothes and uses his "main card" - a good knowledge of the French language. He gets a job in the general's family as a French teacher.
But the teacher, also, has practically no chances of marrying the general's daughter.
However, sudden events come to the aid of the "teacher".
Before a solemn dinner, which the general gives for the whole district, this military leader looks out of the window from his office and sees a hare. A hare gnaws at the bark of a young apple tree next to the general's landowner's house.
The General's plans change. Messengers are sent to all parts of all the district. Local nobles gather from everywhere. In addition, divisions are called up from military camps.
The whole district is cordoned off. Soon the hunt for the impudent hare will begin.
The "French teacher" acts ingeniously - through the intellect.
He goes to an old experienced hunter and gives him a silver ruble. The hunter finds a dead hare for the "mensieu" and even shoots the found hare from the "teacher's" pistol. Then the "teacher" and the hunter throw the hare in the bushes outside the gate leading towards the manor's house.
Soon the assembled nobles set out to catch the hare. The divisions surrounded the district, they were put on full combat readiness. All soldiers and officers received ten live rounds (each).
However, as soon as the crowd of hunters moves out of the gate, the "French teacher" draws a pistol and shoots in the direction of the bushes.
Everyone looks at the "teacher" with surprise. It turns out he has a pistol!
Meanwhile, servants bring a hare from the bushes.
The general looks first at the hare, then at the "teacher of French" ...
The poet continues to draw female heads...
Something is not well.
For all the cunning of the small landowner and for all his dexterity in the situation with the hare, he will not be successfull to become the son-in-law of the general and to make a sudden high career.
The poet decides to take a break from prose and to ride in a sleigh with his girlfriend. Small landowners devote their time to plans to marry generals' daughters. Meanwhile, the poet will pick off a young and fresh kiss.
After a wonderful winter trip, with a good speed, along beautiful places, a new thoughts will come - about the plot for a work in prose ...
