Sergius (Romanov) and Facebook. A culturological essay.
About an hour ago, one of the radio stations broadcast another piece of information about Sergius (Romanov).
Something was known about what happened and before this message, and some news was fresh.
So what was the radio station reporting?
Firstly, that the church court completed the consideration, and that Sergius (Romanov) was expelled from the dignity (from the system of church ranks).
Secondly, that the consideration of the secular trial court was completed, and Sergius (Romanov) was fined several tens of thousands of rubles.
(The information was received by ear, I reproduce it from memory).
By themselves, these posts do not make sense to comment.
Surprised by a cultural phenomenon.
To create an image of a good informing, the program host contacted a local correspondent, and they began to exchange views with confusion and surprise - who are they talking about? What kind of person is this if he is deprived of church rank? Is there any subject for discussion at all?
It can be assumed that in a number of countries, people of various educational levels are engaged in journalism. But - is it good or bad? - in Russia there is a tradition of hiring people with higher education in state, near state and near budget mass media.
For people with higher education, the demonstrated confusion and surprise are looking ridiculous.
It's enough to recall the 'The Social Network' drama film (2010) about the creation of Facebook.
One of the notable topics of this film is the business reputation of event participants. And in business reputation, in addition to financial issues, issues of official status (position), and other topics, such a reputation component as the historical and creative status of an individual occupies an important place.
In other words. There is a topic of money circulation and the participation of a person in this turnover. There is a topic of posts in the organization (in this case, Facebook). But completely independently the question exist about the history of the creation of Facebook and the participation of an individual in this process.
The right to be named [the right to use a name] the 'founder, creator of Facebook' is a moral and legal right that some participants in the events of the film 'Social Network' defend, protect, reserve for themselves.
In the field of culture and art, many significant personalities did not have any official titles. Their reputation is based not on the title assigned by someone, but on the fact of creation (participation in the creation), on the fact of influence on events.
To understand this simple truth, maybe a higher education is not required.
But two employees of the radio station (the host of the program and the local correspondent) did not have the intellectual power and breadth of worldview to understand a simple cultural phenomenon.
We will not touch on other components of the reputation of Sergius (Romanov). But from a summary of information about him and his activities, it is obvious that he is the founder and builder of at least two monasteries (one in Ganina Pit [Ganina Yama]; the second - I can't reproduce the exact name from memory).
Participation in the foundation of even one monastery is a notable event. If we are talking about the foundation of two monasteries - this is even more noteworthy. This is just a historical fact. This is not a title, rank, nor a social position. This is a historical fact.
The program host and local correspondent need not be surprised at the seeming paradox - that they are discussing a supposedly insignificant person, deprived of dignity (of a church rank). There is no paradox. The paradox is imaginary one.
Reputation is built not only on official posts and titles given by someone. But also on the fact of participation in events, the fact of creation (participation in creation), on the fact of influence on events. This is a historical and constructive component of the individual's reputation (unlike, for example, from the 'official', from the 'titular' ...). Aleksander Danilovich Menshikov, was a greedy and power-hungry man (as a result, lost all his titles), but he was a (heroic) participant in the Battle of Poltava (1709) - you, possible, know how to distinguish one from the other (titles, ranks from historical fact)....
Maybe it's useful for the program host and local correspondent to watch the movie 'Social Network'? Events can be treated differently. But the creation of Facebook, and the creation of monasteries - these events attract the attention of certain parts (segments) of certain audiences.
In addition, modern journalism is greedy for (to) people with real success stories. It seems that they exist - people with success stories ... But how to submit them? How to understand them? ...
Maybe people with real success stories cause confusion and surprise among contemporary figures in Russial journalism?
Everybody - hurry in the cinema halls and walk to computer monitors! Watch the film "Social Network"! (One can declare oneself a journalist only after having mastered the entire cultural heritage of all mankind!).
