Nobel Prize to Dmitry Muratov. Congratulation.
'HELSINKI, October 8 [2021]. / TASS /. (...) Dmitry Muratov is the first Russian [Russial citizen] to become a Nobel Peace Prize laureate. Earlier this award was received by Mikhail Gorbachev in 1990. " [unofficial translation] (https://tass.ru/obschestvo/12611515)
Having learned about the award of the Nobel Prize to Dmitry Muratov, I found in Ivan Bunin's "Memoirs" a description of such event in 1933.
'Today in the cinema is the daytime performance, - I will go to the cinema.
Coming down from the mountain on which the "Belvedere" stands, into the city, I look at the distant Cannes, at the sea barely visible on such days, at the misty ridges of Esterel and catch myself thinking:
- Maybe right now, somewhere there, on the other edge of Europe, my fate is being decided ...
In the darkness near me there was some kind of cautious noise, then the light of a hand flashlight and someone touches my shoulder and solemnly excitedly says in an undertone:
- Phone from Stockholm ...
And all my former life is cut off at once." [unofficial translation]
In one of the biographies of Alexander Solzhenitsyn, I found a description of such event in 1970: "The prize fell like merry snow on my head!" Norwegian journalist Per Egil Hegge phoned to village of Zhukovka with congratulations and questions, and Solzhenitsyn answered clearly: 'I am grateful for the award and accept this award. I intend to go and receive it personally, as is customary, if it depends on me. I am healthy ..." The same is in the telegram to the Swedish Academy: 'I have received your telegram, thank you. I see the award of the Nobel Prize as a tribute to Russian literature and our difficult history. I intend to come to Stockholm for personal participation by the traditional day. " [unofficial translation]
Mikhail Gorbachev: 'In October 1990, the Nobel Prize Committee decided to award me the Peace Prize. This decision gave me, frankly, mixed feelings. Of course, it was flattering to receive one of the most prestigious international awards, which before me had been awarded to such outstanding people as Albert Schweitzer, Willy Brandt, Andrei Sakharov. I received many congratulations - from my colleagues, compatriots and from abroad ... '. [unofficial translation]
Thanks for attention to Russia.
Congratulations to Dmitry Muratov on being awarded the Nobel Prize.
