  More and more financial resources and efforts are being invested in the Electra eSTOL aircraft model.
  
  One of the main advantages of this model is the freedom from runways: ultra-short takeoffs and landings from such small spaces as rooftops, parking lots and soccer fields - runways are not required.
  
  Another significant advantage is the hybrid engine. The design of the aircraft is focused on freedom from the electrical network. The built-in battery is charged during the flight. There is no need for special infrastructure or the need to wait for recharging on the ground. The aircraft is expected to use a 150 kW hybrid-electric turbo generator to power eight electric motors and to charge a dedicated battery system during flight. (The option of charging "from the outlet" is also present).
  
  Additional - important for urban conditions - dignity: low noise level. The use of electric propulsion means the delivery quietly of passengers or goods to your destination. "Your neighbors and community will be happy."
  
  It is assumed that the aircraft will be able to carry up to seven passengers with one pilot on board. A range of up to 500 miles [805 km] and a speed of up to 200 miles [322 km] per hour are predicted.
  
  Flight tests are scheduled to begin in 2022.
  
  Dr. John S. Langford is the Founder and CEO of Electra.aero, a startup developing hybrid electric aircraft for regional mobility (including the Electra eSTOL model).
  
  Langford received his Ph.D. from MIT in the field of aeronautics and public policy. He also received Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in aeronautics and astronautics and a Master of Science in defense policy and arms control from MIT.
  
  While he was a student at MIT, Langford managed the MIT Daedalus human powered aircraft project.
  
  (A human-powered aircraft, on 23 April 1988, flew a distance of 72.4 mi (115.11 km) in 3 hours, 54 minutes, from Heraklion on the island of Crete to the island of Santorini).
  
  Langford founded Aurora Flight Sciences in 1989 in order to design and manufacture high altitude UAVs. He is considered one of the pioneers of unmanned aircraft.
  
  Electra was formed in early 2020 after John Langford left his previous company Aurora Flight Sciences, which he founded in 1989 and subsequently sold to Boeing.
