A super-short review of the film "Boris Zaborov. In A Search of the Lost Time" (2015).

A super-short review of the film "Boris Zaborov. In A Search of the Lost Time" (2015).

At first, I saw a material about Boris Zaborov (October 16, 1935, Minsk - January 20, 2021, Paris). Then I tried to see his paintings. But the first attempts were unsuccessful. It was weird.

Then I came across an interview about Boris Zaborov (01/21/2021 / 18:30 In memory of Boris Zaborov: "... Mystically he got to Paris and opened Modigliani's grave." Diplomat and linguist Pyotr Sadovsky shared his memories of the artist Boris Zaborov). [unofficial translation] (https://nn.by/?c=ar&i=267013&lang=ru).

The film was "included" into this interview, .

There was an opportunity to watch the film (scriptwriters and directors Galina Aksyonova, Veniamin Smekhov). [unofficial translation] (https://nn.by/?c=ar&i=267013&lang=ru)

There are two subjects for review: Boris Zaborov's paintings and the film itself.

  I'll start with the movie.

The film was made very professionally, harmoniously.

Among the main themes of the film are paintings by Boris Zaborov.

The authors of the film periodically "revive" [do a live] Boris Zaborov's paintings. And if to revive not only paintings? Sometimes the authors of the film do it - as if as a joke ... or make an analogy: here's a painting, and here is a person slightly similar to the object depicted in the painting ...

But Boris Zaborov's paintings are not the only component of the film. Interviews have been added to the paintings (it seems that most of those who give interviews are figures from the world of cinema, and not from the world of artists), views of different cities, of a premises (apartments? workshops? art galleries?) ...

In general, without any special damage, you can subtract from the film everything that does not apply to the paintings and to Boris Zaborov himself ...

If someone is interested in looking at filmmakers who are no longer of interest to anyone, then it's possible.

Yes, I must add, clarify - I watched the movie with the sound turned off.

So, we subtract the interview, leaving mainly the paintings and Boris Zaborov himself. And we look at them.

In general, this is how the beginning of the film was built. Paintings, and Boris Zaborov. But films with a duration of 10-15 minutes, apparently, are not accepted (there may be their own cinema secrets; the duration of a film is about 40 minutes). Interviews don't spoil the film. They turn it into some kind of historical evidence.

The general impression of the work of Boris Zaborov was formed after the first quarter (25 percent) of the film.

I would say that those who are the models for painting (those depicted) are afraid of the artist (the author of the paintings) and those who look at the paintings.

And the artist (the author of the paintings), perhaps, is afraid of those whom and what he paints.

This fear converts into powerful creativity and has a huge artistic effect.

Naturally, I speak out my personal opinion, describe my personal impressions.

You look at the pictures with fear and admiration.

The paintings are admirable. They certainly deserve to be in art galleries.

Next to the paintings is Boris Zaborov. He behaves with restraint, modesty, with dignity. Many collective photos. It seems that filmmakers, people of cinematography are represented very often ...

Would someone post such paintings at home, in a personal space? I personally - would not. I can't say about others ...

Modern Belarus is changing. The paintings that I saw before (from other artists) have a different emotional palette: cheerfulness, sadness, irony and self-irony ...

Let's compare Boris Zaborov and other artists in terms of talent, skill? Probably, we will refrain ...

Boris Zaborov moved from Belarus to France in 1980 (new levels of popularity and success) ...

It remains to positively reflect on the movement of modern Belarus to Europe ...
