Let"s Travel to the Town

Let"s travel to the town,
Our old destination.
The baggage of the years
Can wait at this train station.

The years are kept safeguarded,
But we are not to quiver.
We"ll feel a bit of sadness,
Yet lively in the shiver.

The fall is over ripened
With frost upon the apple.
Bird, cloud, and chimney smoke
Have no need to grapple.

The leaves have all but fallen,
First snow is almost here,
Both spacious and prodigious
The autumn"s hemisphere.

Like swallow"s saliva,
The glue of frost almighty.
It sealed together all that
Disordered and flighty.

November comes upon us,
Immense and incocated,
And, seemingly, the town
Is void, unpopulated,

There"s so much fresh air
With hideaways for crows,
That you don"t even notice
A human is so close.

Oh, how too late I took on
The "why" of my existence,
The ways and works of nature,
The cost of least resistance,

The weight of taming passions,
The power of emotion,
The bitter fruit of caution,
The bitter fruit of caution.
