I saw an angel crying
When our Atlantis lost its gleam.
This truth is mystifying,
We can"t live up to what we seem.
A shade of white with touch of gray,
A silver lightning in the sky
Meant for a beautiful decay -
And then I saw a butterfly.
A fair light, born from the shine
Of many thousands moonlit nights,
An earthly creature, but divine,
A star-like glimmer, dim and bright.
If I can"t go on anymore,
And leave my paper wings behind,
Don"t be nostalgic, don"t deplore;
Pretend these butterflies were blind.
